I need advice on whether to take iron supplements. Reason is my serum ferritin is low.  It's 7.42 where the range is 13-150ng/ml. But my serum transferrin is mid range 33 where the range is 20-50. How can I raise my iron levels safely ie without raising my serum transferrin.  Would iron supplements with desferal do the trick. Please advice I don't know much about managing thalasseamia and where I live,  I have to do my own research more or less. Also my LDL has shot up.  Is there any correlation ie thalasseamia and high LDL? Lastly,  I tried wheatgrass but it gave me terrible bloating. Any other Hb inducer that I can use?
